IRTC provided training in GIS and Remote Sensing technology for graduate students from Department of Geography, Nirmala College Coimbatore. The training session from December 3 to 5 introduced students to the basics and the practical applications of GIS, Remote Sensing and GPS technologies. Fundamentals & applications of Remote Sensing, satellite image processing, land use, land cover classification, preparation of resource map, Google earth, GPS technology by field study was the major sessions held in three days. Anand Sebastian, Rajan M., both of them Project Scientist, GIS Analyst, Ragendhu N.R., Vivek Ashokan, Project Assistant lead the sessions.
The training program was inaugurated by Dr. Sreekumar S., Director, IRTC and a leading Geologist. He explained the global application of GIS and Remote Sensing technologies and their relevance. He said that the importance of such technologies should also be considered in the light of changing climatic conditions and frequent natural disasters. R. Satheesh, Head, IRTC Natural Resource Management Division, K.K. Jananrdhanan addressed the gathering. M. Ramachandran, Administrative Officer, IRTC distributed the certificates on the last day.
