IRTC has had a remarkable role in the upliftment of potters’ community in Kerala. The wholehearted support and financial aid bestowed by State and Central Govt. Agencies has ensured the fruitful continuity of this program.
Drawing on the experiences and taking into account the felt need from the ground, IRTC conducted a 5-day National Workshop on "Modern Techniques in Traditional Pottery" from 21st to 25th.
The inaugural ceremony commenced at 11 AM with welcome speech by Dr. N. K. Sasidharan Pillai, Director, IRTC. The session was presided over by Shri. M. K. Kuttykrishnan, President, Mundur Grama Panchayath.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Adv. K. Shanthakumari, President, District Panchayath, Palakkad. In the inaugural speech, she lauded the contributions made by IRTC in revamping of traditional pottery and the welfare of potter community.
The coordinator of the workshop, Dr. M. Lalithambika presented the report on revamping of traditional pottery. Afterwards Dr. Suresh Das, Executive Vice President of KSCSTE, published a monograph titled 'Modernization of Traditional Pottery' prepared by IRTC and he delivered a felicitation address.
Adv. K. Radhika (Member, Palakkad District Panchayath), Shri. M. K. Narayanan (President, Puduppariyaram Grama Pamchayath), Shri. M. Dinesh (Block Panchayath Member, Malambuzha), and Smt. P. R. Bindu (Ward member, Mundur Panchayath) also addressed the gathering.
